Reminder – USCIS Webinar – TPS Extension and Redesignation for Ethiopia – (6/11/24)

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will be holding a national webinar on Thursday, May 9, from 1 to 2 p.m. (Eastern). This webinar will provide an overview of Temporary Protected Status (TPS),explaining the extension and redesignation for Ethiopia, including eligibility requirements and filing tips. USCIS will respond to questions submitted in advance or via chat function during the webinar. They will not answer case-specific questions.

Do I have to work full time on an H-1B, or may I work part time? No, you may work full-time or part-time. There is no rule as to the minimum number of hours. Working less than 35 hours per week will result in part-time employment. Pay close attention to what has been marked on your Certified Labor Condition Application (LCA) and Form I-129, page 5, regarding your full time or part time status.

What is SVP? Specific Vocational Preparation (SVP) is defined as the amount of time required by a worker to learn the techniques, obtain the information, and develop the facility needed for average performance in a specific job. SVP is used in the H-1B nonimmigrant visa context as well as in the Employment Based Green Card process.

Immigrants in each State (fact sheets): Arkansas, California and Colorado – Update

UPDATE: Explore American Immigration Council’ interactive map to get more comprehensive information on U.S. immigration data and its impact!

The American Immigration Council (AIC) has released all fifty states and the District of Columbia, for a total of fifty-one updated state-by-state fact sheets highlighting immigration data and facts. These fact sheets highlight the demographic and economic impact of Immigrants in each state.

With national immigration policy being discussed, we thought that it would be a good time to provide some statistics on the Immigrant population in the United States as provided by this AIC research. Once a week we will be posting a blog with information on three states at a time. This week we will highlight; Arkansas, California and Colorado!

This well put together Factsheet provides information on selected characteristics of people with Lawful Permanent Residence (LPR) status in the New Orleans-Metairie, LA area. There are 18,360 LPR (Green Card holders) in this area of the country that are eligible to be naturalized U.S. citizen after meeting the requirements!

Radio Interview – Immigration is polarizing. What’s missing is empathy, experts say!

The Journalist, Roshae Hemmings interviewed Adriano Udani an assistant professor at University of Missouri-St. Louis teaching, “immigration and global migration”! He found that even in his classroom the subject of immigration is a polarizing subject. Adriano feels what is missing is empathy! The NPR Radio interview is just over 27 minutes of audio and presents an interesting and well-informed point of view!
