On Thursday, May 28, 2026, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that they were extending the designation of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for the country of Lebanon for 6 months, beginning on May 28, 2026, and ending on November 27, 2026! The news release states that TPS would be given automatically to Lebanon because the new Secretary of Homeland Security, Markwayne Mullin didn’t have enough time to review their TPS protection before deadline!

For further details please review the USCIS News Release, “DHS Automatically Extends Temporary Protected Status for Lebanon“!

Background:

The Secretary of Homeland Security may designate a foreign country for TPS due to conditions in the country that temporarily prevent the country’s nationals from returning safely, or in certain circumstances, where the country is unable to handle the return of its nationals adequately. USCIS may grant TPS to eligible nationals of certain countries (or parts of countries), who are already in the United States. Eligible individuals without nationality who last resided in the designated country may also be granted TPS.
