The Trump Administration’s new budget is urging Congress to cut all funding, including staff for the Office of the Immigration Detention Ombudsman (OIDO)! OIDO is an independent, internal watchdog within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Their mission is to examine and oversee conditions of immigration detention and ensure that individuals are treated humanely.
When Trump first came into his second term, he cut funding and staff to OIDO, effectively eliminating it without Congress!
