Trump’s H-2B support? Not a problem

President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort notified federal authorities that it wants to hire 70 temporary guest workers under the H-2B visa program. His resort will be hiring cooks, housekeepers and servers to enter the country and work there from Oct. 1 to May under the H-2B visa program.

Last week, the Trump administration announced that the H-2B program would be enlarged by 15,000 positions, but they could have expanded the program by 55,000 more under authority granted by Congress.

DHS Allows One-Time Increase in H-2B Guest Worker Visas for Fiscal Year 2017

On July 19, 2017, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Department of Labor (DOL) increased the numerical limit (or “cap”) on H-2B visas by up to 15,000 additional visas through the end of fiscal year (FY) 2017. This increases the normal yearly cap from 66,000 to 81,000 for this year only.

MD Seafood Industry Gets Boost from H-2B Visa Program

Maryland’s seafood industry could benefit from President Donald Trump’s administration permitting 15,000 more foreign workers to enter the United States under the H-2B visa program. This increases the normal yearly cap from 66,000 to 81,000 for this year only. Each year crab-picking and oyster-shucking houses have relied on a small number of workers allowed in the country on H-2B visas, which permit foreigners to take temporary nonagricultural jobs.
